Meet Zinc, a 12-pound poodle mix with a tender heart, quiet bravery, and so much potential just waiting to bloom.

Zinc was saved from an abusive situation in Dallas and arrived in heartbreaking condition. He was so severely matted that he had to be shaved all the way down to his skin, and emotionally, he was just as raw: frightened, unsure, and distrusting of people. Despite everything he’s been through, Zinc has shown us just how resilient and special he truly is.

What Zinc has always trusted are other animals. He absolutely adores dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments, and he does wonderfully with other animals as well (including cats and potbellied pigs). Their presence gives him confidence and helps him feel safe. While he takes a little time to warm up to new people, he clearly understands the dog-human bond and knows he needs his people. Once Zinc allows you to pick him up, he enjoys gentle pets and quiet affection.

Zinc can be a bit of an escape artist if there’s a gap in a fence, but he never goes far and has always found his way right back home. He loves being groomed, walks nicely on a leash, and is perfectly crate trained. In fact, he does best with a crate while he’s settling into the routines of a new home: it gives him a sense of security and predictability.

Honestly, Zinc is just a really cool little dog. We can see him thriving in a home with kids, in a home with other dogs, or ideally both. Other dogs especially help him come out of his shell and show his true personality. Zinc is fully vetted: vaccinated, heartworm negative, neutered, and microchipped.

He has come incredibly far in the few months he’s been with our rescue, and we can’t wait to see how much more he blossoms in the right forever home. If you’re interested in meeting this special little guy, please submit an application at CRAPrescue.org/application.

Adoption process: After your phone screening, we can schedule a meet and greet / the start of your foster-to-adopt trial. All adoptions have a 2 week minimum foster-to-adopt trial to make sure that the pet is the right fit for your home, and vice versa. Zinc's adoption fee is $300, which would be due after the foster-to-adopt period. If you are located outside of Texas, we offer to-your-door transportation and have so many happy families as references. We are very transparent about the process so feel free to ask any questions.
