Abuela

Abuela is an 8-year-old dainty teddy bear of a dog with the soul of a survivor and the spirit of a rock star. Truly, this little old lady has overcome more than most, and she has done it all without missing a step.

Abuela is the perfect mix of pep and chill, affection and independence. She loves her people, enjoys doing her own little thing, and brings the kind of soft, joyful energy that makes a home feel warmer just by having her in it.

This sweet girl was found on the beach in Cancun with a horrific mammary tumor. We will spare you the photos, but we will tell you this: Abuela received immediate surgical intervention and soon after earned herself a clean bill of health. Just when we thought her hardest days were behind her, she developed mysterious neurological symptoms, including spinning in circles, that ultimately left her with a permanent head tilt.

The vets have not been able to fully explain what happened, but whatever was bothering Abuela appears to be firmly in her past. She has been perfectly happy and healthy for the last 10 months with no new medical issues, and she continues to live every day with her signature spunk and sweetness.

Abuela is one of the most social little ladies you will ever meet. She loves meeting new people, loves other dogs, and is even cat friendly. She is losing some of her hearing and vision, but please do not tell her that, because she has absolutely no plans to slow down. She navigates life with confidence, joy, and just enough sass to keep things interesting.

Abuela is amazing both on and off leash. She is crate trained, though she prefers to simply roam the house like the tiny queen she is. She is perfectly nondestructive and will potty outside as long as she gets frequent enough potty breaks. A full 8-hour workday is a little much for her, so she would do best with someone who can let her out regularly or provide a flexible routine.

And we cannot forget her hair. When grown out, Abuela has the most luscious locks in various shades of brown. She is currently rocking a summer lion cut, and yes, she looks absolutely darling.

Abuela is joyous, spunky, sweet, social, resilient, and so incredibly deserving of a forever home that sees her for what she is: a little miracle wrapped in teddy bear fur.

Abuela is of course up to date on core vaccinations, heartworm negative, spayed, and microchipped.

Adoption process: After your phone screening, we can schedule a meet and greet/the start of your foster-to-adopt trial. All adoptions have a 2 week minimum foster-to-adopt trial to make sure that the pet is the right fit for your home, and vice versa. Abuela's adoption fee is $250, which would be due after the foster-to-adopt period. If you are located outside of Texas, we offer to-your-door transportation and have so many happy families as references. We are very transparent about the process so feel free to ask any questions.
