Meet Boyfriend!
Boyfriend is a 4-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier with a miracle story, a velvet heart, and a very clear understanding that he was put on this earth to be adored.
This handsome boy has survived more than any dog should ever have to. Over a year ago, he was found living in a vacant house in a low-income neighborhood in Fort Worth. He had a badly disfigured front leg from an old, untreated fracture and no one coming for him. His finder took him to the shelter, hoping he would finally get help, but while there, Boyfriend became extremely sick with an upper respiratory infection that quickly turned into pneumonia.
His finder adopted him to get him out of the shelter and into a hospital. After several days, the hospital recommended euthanasia due to the severity of his pneumonia and the approaching Labor Day holiday, when the hospital would be closed. But his finder asked us to take a chance on him — on his survival, on his future, on the possibility that his story was not over yet.
So we did.
After about a month of diligent care, several rounds of antibiotics, and a whole lot of love, Boyfriend beat pneumonia. Then came the next chapter: getting his chronic skin allergies and ear infections under control so he could become healthy enough for the amputation he desperately needed. At the end of June, Boyfriend finally had his injured front limb removed, and the transformation has been incredible. He is truly a different dog now — lighter, brighter, happier, and fully embracing the good life.
And goodness, does this boy love life.
Boyfriend loves all people of all ages. His happy place is anywhere he can make new friends, soak up attention, and be reminded that the world can be kind. He has done beautifully at breweries, World Cup watch parties, farmers markets, and patios. He is social, charming, and always ready to be someone’s new favorite dog.
Boyfriend loves car rides, walks with his people, snuggling, food of all kinds, comfy beds, chews, treats, and toys. He is perfectly house trained and nondestructive in the home. He prefers to sleep in a human bed or a cozy dog bed and would very much like his future family to understand that he is a distinguished gentleman who does not believe in roughing it.
Boyfriend is not a crate fan, but he has done very well with baby gates when he needs his own space. He has coexisted calmly with dogs, cats, parrots, pigs, and tortoises when separated by a barrier such as a gate, crate, cage, or fence. He is not reactive to other dogs on walks and can be near leashed dogs without issue, but he does not enjoy nose-to-nose interactions and would prefer not to have canine friends unless introductions are very slow and thoughtful. Given his history, we cannot blame him for wanting his personal space respected.
What Boyfriend really dreams of is a home where he can be the spoiled center of attention. He wants in on family dinner, Netflix and chill, bedtime stories, lazy mornings, neighborhood strolls, and every soft blanket situation you are willing to provide. After everything he has endured, he is fully embracing the bougie life. And honestly, he has earned every bit of it.
Boyfriend is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, and has a clean bill of health. His allergies no longer require medication, and his chronic ear infection is managed with twice-weekly ear drops.
This boy is special in every possible way. His story is nothing short of a miracle, and now he is ready for the ending he has deserved all along: a forever home where he is safe, cherished, spoiled, and loved beyond measure.
If you are looking for a resilient, people-loving, snack-enthusiast tripod with a heart of gold and a soul that shines, Boyfriend may be your perfect match. Apply to adopt at CRAPrescue.org/application.
Adoption process: After your phone screening, we can schedule a meet and greet/the start of your foster-to-adopt trial. All adoptions have a 2 week minimum foster-to-adopt trial to make sure that the pet is the right fit for your home, and vice versa. Boyfriend's adoption fee is $250, which would be due after the foster-to-adopt period. If you are located outside of Texas, we offer to-your-door transportation and have so many happy families as references. We are very transparent about the process so feel free to ask any questions.
